Terms of Use

Using Spotback

Spotback is free to use for finding your way back to a parked car, a spot, a path or a friend. It is provided as is, with no warranty of any kind. GPS can be off by metres or more, especially indoors, underground and between tall buildings, so please do not rely on it as your only way back or in any situation where getting lost would put you in danger.

Your data

Your spots, paths and settings are stored only in your phone's browser storage and never leave it unless you choose to share them. Meet Up and Friends send only what you choose to share to Spotback's server, which holds it just long enough to deliver it and then lets it expire. An anonymous usage counter stores a random per-device id and a date, and nothing else. There are no accounts and no advertising. While the tilted driving view is on (or its flat version on older phones), map tiles load from OpenFreeMap (via Cloudflare). Like the regular map's providers (Esri, and USGS for the USGS maps), it sees those tile requests, so your IP address and the approximate area on screen; nothing else is sent.
